The Municipal Court of Jonesboro handles misdemeanor offenses such as traffic violations, possession of marijuana, shoplifting and local ordinance violations.

The following offenses require a court appearance:
= Driving under the influence.
= Driving with a suspended, revoked or cancelled driver’s license.
= Failure to maintain insurance.
= Hit and run/fleeing the scene of an accident.
= Possession of marijuana.
= Driving without a valid license.
= Aggressive driving
= Fleeing or attempting to elude police or a roadblock.
= Improper passing of an emergency, towing or highway safety vehicle.
= Driving with a suspended, cancelled or revoked vehicle registration.
= Reckless driving.
SPEAKING WITH THE JUDGE
The judge will not discuss pending cases outside of the court room, through the mail, by email or over the phone. Any request for a private discussion must be made on your assigned day of court and will take place at the judge’s bench or in the judge’s chambers at the discretion of the judge.
SPEAKING WITH THE PROSECUTOR
There is a prosecutor/solicitor available during arraignment and trial courts. All requests to speak with the prosecutor/solicitor must be made in person on the day of court.
COURT DATE CONTINUANCES
Court dates may be continued by court personnel only once. Please note that any additional continuances must be granted by the judge on the scheduled court date. Continuance requests must be made 2 business days prior to the scheduled court date for Arraignment Court and no later than 5 business days prior to the scheduled court date for Trial Court. All continuance requests on the day of court must be granted by the judge in court.
REQUESTING A TRIAL
You must appear on your arraignment date, which is shown on the citation. A trial will be scheduled at that time. All motions for jury trials and/or Indigent Defense representation require a court appearance.
FAILURE TO APPEAR
If you have not paid your fine before the scheduled court date and fail to appear or are late for a scheduled court appearance, your fine will be increased for a contempt of court charge. The increased amount is at the sole discretion of the presiding judge. Failing to appear may also result in a bench warrant being issued for your arrest and/or a suspension of your Georgia driving privileges. To get your case rescheduled, after a failure to appear, you will be required to pay the contempt of court fee assessed by the judge.
FINES
If your case requires a court appearance, you cannot pay any of your fines until you have appeared in court and a plea has been entered on the case with the presiding judge.
If you are unable to pay your fine(s), you will need to appear in court where you will have the option of requesting probation to pay fine(s) over a period of time.

Building Dress Code
If you are appearing in court, you should dress appropriately and in a manner that shows respect for the court.
Please note the following attire is not appropriate in a courtroom setting: Miniskirts or shorts, Ripped or torn jeans exposing skin/body parts, Flip flops, Sunglasses (unless prescribed), Hats inside the courtroom (except those worn for religious purposes), T-shirts depicting violence, sexual acts, profanity, or illegal drugs, Baggy pants that fall below the waist, Tube or halter tops/spaghetti straps/plunging necklines/midriffs. Muscle shirts (usually worn as undergarments).
Prohibited Items
- No weapons (guns, knives, aerosol sprayers, razor blades, needles etc.)
- Any items construed as a potential weapon may also be taken by court security
